The Prime Minister inaugurated this year's Business Council on January 31st, initiating a series of engagements with its members throughout the year to deliberate on economic growth. Among its primary objectives is the facilitation of direct communication between the government and leading businesses, ensuring insights from the forefront of industry inform policymaking. This collaboration encompasses a diverse array of businesses, ranging from prominent corporations to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), all poised to contribute to the government's growth agenda.
The council, spearheaded by Chief Executives of renowned companies like BT Group, Nationwide, Unilever, and others, represents over 200,000 employees nationwide, pivotal to the nation's prosperity. Its formation builds upon the economic strides made in 2023, including substantial investments such as Tata Group's gigafactory and Microsoft's AI infrastructure.
The Business Council serves as a conduit for dialogue, offering a real-world perspective on economic dynamics and fostering cooperation between government and industry to stimulate investment, innovation, and job creation. Notably, quarterly meetings will also be held with small business representative groups to ensure a broad spectrum of voices is heard, ensuring inclusivity in decision-making processes.
