Analog Devices (ADI) and Tata Group have partnered to explore semiconductor manufacturing in India, aiming to enhance the country's presence in the global chip industry. Tata Electronics, a subsidiary of the Tata Group, is investing $14 billion to build India’s first semiconductor fabrication facility in Gujarat and a chip-assembly and testing plant in Assam. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push to make India a global semiconductor hub, competing with industry leaders like Taiwan.
The collaboration will focus on utilizing Tata's upcoming facilities to manufacture ADI's semiconductor products. Additionally, Tata Motors plans to incorporate ADI’s products into its electric vehicles, and Tejas Networks will use them in its telecom infrastructure. Although the specific products have not been disclosed, this move is expected to advance India’s semiconductor capabilities significantly.
India's semiconductor ambitions have already attracted investments from companies such as NXP Semiconductors and Micron. In parallel, other Indian states, like Maharashtra, have announced substantial semiconductor projects involving companies like Adani Group and Israel's Tower Semiconductor. These developments mark a crucial step in India’s journey to becoming a key player in the semiconductor industry, fostering technological innovation and economic growth.
