Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) has secured an $8 million contract to design and supply a cooling system for a U.K. renewable energy facility. This project, awarded to B&W Environmental, will enhance the plant’s capability to produce low-carbon baseload electricity. The contract includes the provision of a SPIG® air-cooled condenser (ACC), known for its advanced, high-efficiency design suited to renewable energy applications.
The SPIG ACC system uses dry cooling technology, which condenses turbine exhaust steam by utilizing ambient air rather than water. This method offers several advantages, including high efficiency, reduced operating noise, and enhanced corrosion resistance. B&W Environmental's involvement underscores its role as a leading solutions provider in the U.K. renewable energy sector.
Jimmy Morgan, B&W Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, expressed pride in participating in this significant clean energy initiative. This project reflects B&W Environmental’s commitment to supporting the growth of sustainable energy solutions. The installation of the SPIG ACC system is expected to contribute to the plant’s operational efficiency and environmental goals, marking a pivotal step in the advancement of renewable energy technologies in the region.
