Enhancing Groupage and Contract Logistics in Italy: Dachser and Fercam Join Forces

Fercam is partnering with Dachser to establish "Dachser & Fercam Italia S.r.l." as a joint venture for its Distribution and Logistics divisions. With Dachser holding an 80 percent stake, this move enriches their European network. The transfer's approval by competition authorities is pending.

As per the agreement, Fercam will detach its Fercam Distribution and Fercam Logistics divisions from Fercam AG, integrating them into the new entity by year-end. These divisions, employing 920 across 43 Italian sites, generated EUR 400 million in revenue in 2022.

Beginning in 2024, the independent venture will operate under "Dachser & Fercam Italia S.r.l." and report to Alexander Tonn, COO of Road Logistics at Dachser. Fercam's Distribution and Logistics Management, led by Dr. Gianfranco Brillante, will ensure expertise continuity. Fercam AG retains a 20 percent stake.

Notably, Fercam Transport, Fercam Air & Ocean, and Fercam Special Services remain solely owned by Fercam AG. Their growth and internationalization, including overseas, are part of Fercam's plans.

This collaboration stems from shared values and a commitment to future viability. Bernhard Simon, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Dachser, notes their unity. Thomas Baumgartner, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Fercam, highlights the need for strategic partnerships amid evolving market conditions.

The acquisition marks Dachser's third expansion in Europe, following acquisitions in France (1999) and Spain (2013). Burkhard Eling, CEO of Dachser, emphasizes the network's completion.

Customers will gain from streamlined processes. The existing 20-year partnership between Dachser and Fercam facilitates a smooth transition, enhancing their positions.

Aligned in operational logistics handling, Fercam's investments in facilities and conservation match Dachser's values.

This joint venture avoids duplication as Dachser's European Logistics lacked a presence in Italy. Personnel from Fercam's divisions will work for Dachser & Fercam Italia, reflecting sustainable investment commitment.

In Italy, Dachser established its presence in Food Logistics (chilled and non-chilled) in 2017, with three sites and 270 employees.
