Etihad's India Business Soars with CSK Players' Influence

The partnership between Etihad Airways and the Chennai Super Kings spans three years officially, but indications suggest it will extend far beyond, according to Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer of Etihad Airways. Etihad Airways, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, secures the prime sponsorship position for the Chennai Super Kings, affording it substantial visibility during IPL matches through jersey branding and perimeter board displays.

Rakesh Singh, Director of Chennai Super Kings Ltd., highlighted the privileges that come with being a principal sponsor, hinting at a comprehensive set of opportunities. While financial details remain undisclosed, sponsorships collectively contribute over ₹100 crore to CSK's revenue streams.

In a separate venture, Etihad Airways recently enlisted Bollywood luminary Katrina Kaif as its brand ambassador in September 2023. The airline operates under a bilateral agreement with India, allowing it 50,000 weekly seats to Abu Dhabi. Currently, in partnership with Air Arabia, Etihad utilizes 42,000 seats per week, maintaining an impressive 85–90% occupancy rate.

Despite significant events like the inauguration of a Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi on February 14, Arik De remains optimistic about Etihad's India operations. He emphasized the enduring relationship between India and the UAE, extending beyond individual events. Etihad's India operations have seen a 30% annual growth rate post-pandemic, showcasing sustained success.

Regarding unique features, De highlighted Etihad's provision for passengers to complete US immigration processes in Abu Dhabi before flying to the US, an exclusive service unmatched by other airlines. Etihad operates Airbus 350 aircraft but not A-380s, focusing on providing innovative services and maintaining strong partnerships for continued growth.
