67% of UK businesses with 10 or more employees enjoyed a stable supply of materials, goods, and services sourced within the country, as per a survey conducted by the UK Office of National Statistics (ONS). When considering businesses that had to adapt their suppliers or seek alternative solutions, this figure increased to 78%.

Furthermore, 7% of these businesses faced global supply chain disruptions, maintaining stability compared to June 2023 but marking the lowest proportion recorded since December 2021, according to the ONS report.

Concerns among businesses for their future in September dwindled over time, with two-thirds expressing unease. This figure represents a gradual decline, reaching its lowest point since November 2022 when it peaked at 76%.

Industrial action impacted 7% of businesses in July. Additionally, 11% of these businesses reported a rise in hourly wages for their employees from June to July, a figure that climbed to 19% for companies with 10 or more employees.

Late August saw 11% of businesses grappling with worker shortages, a 2-percentage-point decrease from mid-July. Among them, 45% were unable to meet their demands due to these shortages.

In summary, the ONS survey highlights the varying challenges faced by UK businesses in 2023, including supply chain stability, labor issues, and economic concerns for the months ahead.
