India’s Hero MotoCorp is gearing up to launch its Vida electric scooters in the UK, France, and Spain by mid-2025, marking the company’s entry into developed markets. This move aligns with ongoing discussions on a potential India-UK free trade agreement, which could lower tariffs in the automotive industry and offer growth opportunities for Hero. The company’s CEO, Niranjan Gupta, expressed optimism about the positive reception of their e-scooters in these regions, where demand for electric vehicles is rising. Hero MotoCorp is already a major player in Asia, Africa, and Latin America and aims to build on this momentum in Europe.
In addition to e-scooters, Hero is exploring exporting premium petrol motorcycles, like the Mavrick, to the UK and other European markets. However, analysts note that breaking into the premium segment will be crucial for success in these competitive markets. Hero also hopes to expand its Harley-Davidson partnership, which currently focuses on the Indian market, to the UK.
With India’s updated vehicle emission standards meeting global regulations, Hero sees new opportunities for growth in developed markets. As Chinese imports face higher levies, Indian manufacturers like Hero are well-positioned to take advantage of these emerging opportunities.
