The Consul General of Italy in Mumbai, Walter Ferrara, met Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Ahmedabad during the Italy & India Business Meet. Organized by the Consulate of Italy in Mumbai in collaboration with the Italian Chamber of Commerce in India (IICCI), this first bilateral economic forum aims to foster deeper collaboration between Italy and Gujarat.
Discussions during the meeting focused on potential partnerships in sectors where Gujarat excels, such as oil, textiles, pharmaceuticals, automotive, and ceramics. The ceramics sector, in particular, has already seen substantial contributions from Italian companies operating successfully in the region.
Walter Ferrara emphasized how "Made in Italy" excellence complements India’s "Make in India" program, paving the way for significant collaborations. He highlighted the Joint Action Plan signed in November by Prime Ministers Giorgia Meloni and Narendra Modi, which identifies technological cooperation, defence, innovation, mobility, and infrastructure as priority areas for joint initiatives.
The Italy & India Business Meet drew participation from over 50 companies across diverse industries, fostering dialogues for future partnerships. Sandip Sagale, Commissioner for Industry of the Government of Gujarat, opened the event with a speech underlining India’s focus on establishing robust industrial ties with Italy. He particularly highlighted renewable energy as a key area for potential collaboration, with promising opportunities for innovation and growth.
This milestone event signifies a strengthened economic partnership between Italy and Gujarat, blending Italian technological expertise and Gujarat’s robust industrial ecosystem. With a shared vision for growth and sustainability, the forum lays the groundwork for long-term collaborations, aligning with both nations’ goals for global economic development.
