In his keynote speech at the 2024 World Governments Summit (WGS), Turkiye’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, emphasized the urgent need for global unity amidst escalating crises worldwide. The session, attended by dignitaries including Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, witnessed Erdogan highlighting Turkiye's commitment to fostering justice and peace, particularly in the face of crises like the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the COVID-19 pandemic fallout.
Erdogan underscored Turkiye's proactive role in mediating conflicts and mitigating global challenges. Notably, Turkiye facilitated talks between Russia and Ukraine and brokered the Black Sea deal to alleviate the global food crisis. The President also addressed the longstanding Palestinian issue, advocating for an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Furthermore, Erdogan urged international support for the UN agency for Palestinian refugees and condemned the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, reaffirming Turkiye's unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people. Reflecting on Turkiye's domestic efforts, Erdogan highlighted the country's resilience in overcoming adversities, including natural disasters and terrorism, while expressing gratitude for the UAE's assistance.
Additionally, Erdogan emphasized Turkiye's significant role in hosting millions of refugees, showcasing its commitment to humanitarian causes on a global scale. Overall, Erdogan's address at the WGS outlined Turkiye's steadfast dedication to fostering peace, both domestically and internationally, amidst a backdrop of formidable challenges.
