Nasscom and Meta have announced a partnership to launch the Open-Source Generative AI Grand Challenge in India. This initiative aims to foster a startup and developer community focused on open-source and Generative AI (GenAI) technologies, with the goal of creating a positive socio-economic impact.
The challenge invites startups and developers from sectors such as education, enterprise, and e-governance to participate. Winners will receive prizes of up to Rs. 4 lakh, while runners-up will get up to Rs. 1 lakh each. Participants will also benefit from mentorship by senior industry professionals.
The collaboration includes the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), a technology partner providing essential computing resources. Nasscom’s Head of AI, Ankit Bose, emphasized the commitment to supporting open-source AI development, highlighting the potential for significant socio-economic impact through empowering developers with these tools.
Meta’s Vice President and Head of Public Policy (India), Shivnath Thukral, noted that open-source AI models democratize access to advanced technology, enabling Indian developers to create innovative solutions. This open innovation aims to enhance India’s AI capabilities and promote economic growth through increased safety and innovation.
