The inaugural Future Energy Forum, hosted by the Canada-UAE Business Council (CUBC) during the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP28 at Expo City Dubai, gathered government and industry leaders to drive climate solutions.
Structured around three interactive panels, the Forum spotlighted climate finance in the public and private sectors, advanced sustainable technologies, and forward-looking decarbonization policies. Distinguished speakers included Pierre Fitzgibbon, Minister of Economy, Innovation and Energy of Quebec, Meera Al Suwaidi from Mubadala Investment Company, and industry leaders from EllisDon, GHGSat, and TD Securities.
Kicking off the event, Co-Chair Jean Charest highlighted Canada and the UAE's unique position in championing future clean energies through their close bilateral ties. Government officials, including H.E Sultan Al Mansoori from the UAE, reinforced commitments to collaborate on decarbonization and sustainability initiatives.
Premier Scott Moe of Saskatchewan and Mark Carney emphasized sustainable development and environmental stewardship in their opening remarks, echoing Saskatchewan's leadership in sustainable economic growth and Brookfield Asset Management's substantial climate initiative investments.
Minister François-Philippe Champagne reaffirmed Canada's commitment to a low carbon economy in a fireside chat, stressing innovative policymaking and significant partnerships.
The Forum culminated with the signing of a strategic collaboration between GHGSat, ADNOC, and YahSat, paving the way for satellite emissions monitoring and a Centre of Excellence on methane emissions reduction in the MENA region and beyond. Recognized as a COP28 Lighthouse Project, this initiative accelerates methane reductions from the energy sector.
