Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. and Pratt & Whitney Canada celebrated a significant milestone by completing the maiden transatlantic flight using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on a Gulfstream business jet equipped with both PW815GA engines.
Anthony Rossi, Pratt & Whitney Canada's VP of Sales & Marketing, highlighted the collaboration's importance in ensuring SAF compatibility across their engines. The successful flight demonstrates operational viability for future 100% SAF specifications, crucial for achieving a more sustainable aviation industry with net-zero CO2 emissions.
The Gulfstream G600 journeyed from Savannah, Georgia, to Farnborough, United Kingdom, powered by 100% Hydro processed Esters and Fatty Acids (neat HEFA). This fuel type exhibits at least 70% lower lifecycle CO2 emissions than fossil-based jet fuel, supplied by World Energy through World Fuel Services.
Mark Burns, President of Gulfstream, emphasized their commitment to sustainability through new aircraft and propulsion technologies. The flight underscores their leadership in fostering environmentally responsible practices within the industry.
Pratt & Whitney Canada engines, accumulating over one billion hours of flight since the inception of the PT6 turboprop engine in 1963, have earned the trust of global aircraft operators. The PW800 engine family's contribution of more than 330,000 hours signifies widespread confidence in their reliability and performance.
