Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly is set to venture into the industrial sector with the establishment of a steel factory in Salboni, situated in Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal. He made this announcement while accompanying West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on her 12-day trip to Spain and Dubai, and it was reported by PTI that the factory's construction is expected to be completed within five to six months.
During his participation in the 'Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS)' in Madrid on September 14, Ganguly disclosed that the state-of-the-art facility would likely be operational in approximately one year. He expressed his gratitude to the chief minister and stated, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the chief minister as we embark on the journey of building our third steel plant in Bengal. Many people tend to associate me only with cricket, but back in 2007, we initiated a small steel plant. Now, in just five to six months, we will commence construction on our new steel plant in Medinipore."
Ganguly commended West Bengal for its business-friendly approach, saying, “This state has always welcomed the world for business. This is precisely why the CM is currently on this international tour. It is evident that the government is dedicated to the state's development and the welfare of its youth."
He emphasized that his remarks were grounded in practical experience and not just his association with the Chief Minister. "I want to clarify that this is based on my own practical experience, regardless of my current association with the Chief Minister. The entire process took only four to five months to complete," Ganguly shared.
Reflecting on his family's longstanding business legacy, which his grandfather initiated approximately 50-55 years ago, Ganguly underscored the historical support provided by the state government.
