UK Trade Mission Connects ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs with UK Businesses

18 Nov, 2024

The UK-ASEAN Trade Mission, part of the UK Government's UK-ASEAN Collaboration on Women’s Economic Empowerment, is set to take place in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on 18 and 19 November. This mission aims to connect ASEAN women entrepreneurs with UK businesses, offering valuable opportunities for collaboration and growth. The event is organized in partnership with the International Trade Center (ITC) and the Cambodia Women Entrepreneurs Network (CamWEN). Following the Phnom Penh event, a series of business-to-business engagements will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, later in the week.

This trade mission follows the recent UK-Cambodia Joint Trade and Investment Forum (JTIF), which aimed to foster sustainable growth between the UK and Cambodia. In Phnom Penh, the trade mission will focus on sectors like textiles and apparel, handicrafts, and footwear. It will involve eight UK companies and 75 Cambodian women-led businesses. The mission is part of the UK Government-funded SheTrades Programme in ASEAN, which aims to strengthen trade relations and empower women entrepreneurs across the region.

Cambodian women-led businesses will have the opportunity to directly engage with UK delegates. On the second day, UK companies will visit various business sites in Phnom Penh, facilitating further discussions. The mission will begin with a 'meet the buyers' session, featuring key figures such as H.E. Chom Nimol, Minister of Commerce of Cambodia, and British Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Dominic Williams MBE. The event highlights the UK’s commitment to supporting women entrepreneurs and promoting stronger trade links between the UK and Cambodia.

The ITC will also introduce an ‘export procedure handbook’ to assist Cambodian women-led businesses in accessing UK markets. The UK-ASEAN Trade Mission is part of the ongoing SheTrades Programme in ASEAN, which includes workshops and initiatives to support women entrepreneurs and foster inclusive economic growth. After Phnom Penh, the mission will continue in Jakarta, Indonesia, where UK delegates will explore further business opportunities.
