WeVenture, a local venture capital-backed incubator, has partnered with Dashen Bank for the third Dashen Kefita Entrepreneurship Contest. The initiative aims to empower Ethiopian entrepreneurs by providing training, mentorship, and a platform to showcase their business ideas. The contest offers over 2 million birr in prizes, with first place receiving 500,000 birr, second place 400,000 birr, and third place 300,000 birr.
Noel Daniel, Managing Partner of WeVenture, announced that WeVenture will assess investment proposals to identify the 50 most promising ventures. The competition will be held in Mekelle, Adama, Bahir Dar, Dessie, Dire Dawa, Wolayta, Hawassa, Jimma, and Addis Ababa.
Entrepreneurs can register at their nearest Dashen Bank branch until June 29, 2024. Following training, applicants will submit their proposals to Dashen Bank for the shortlisting process. WeVenture is tasked with developing training materials and delivering sessions across eight key locations in Ethiopia.
The firm will guide participants through the application process, select the top 50 ventures, and manage logistics, including training sessions, industry visits, and accommodation in Addis Ababa. Proposals will be evaluated using a predefined scoring sheet focusing on originality, potential impact, the founding team's experience and dedication, and market viability. Last year's contest saw 2,500 participants and awarded two million birr to the winners. Ahmed Delil, Solomon Megerssa, and Hebalawe Aleleni won first place with their innovative edible flour made from Enset.
