Wizz Air is set to embark on a substantial expansion strategy, introducing new routes and enhancing its presence in both Italy and Romania.
In Italy, Wizz Air's new routes will connect Rome to Berlin, Hamburg, Alicante, and Copenhagen, while also offering flights from Milan to Paris Beauvais and Tenerife. This expansion also entails an increase in flight frequencies on 17 existing routes from Italian airports, all slated for the year 2024.
This ambitious growth initiative in Italy will bring an additional 1.5 million seats annually to Wizz Air's capacity in this market, where it currently ranks as the third-largest airline.
Meanwhile, Wizz Air is also gearing up for a significant expansion in the Romanian capital, Bucharest. Plans include the addition of two A321neo aircraft for the summer of 2024, effectively increasing the airline's total fleet at the airport to 19 aircraft. This expansion will facilitate the launch of a new route connecting Bucharest to Leipzig, Germany, and a boost in flight frequencies on 21 existing routes.
József Váradi, Wizz Air’s Group CEO, expressed the airline's commitment to Romania, stating, "This investment in our Romanian operation will turn Bucharest into the single largest operational base of Wizz Air, underlining our dedication to the country by creating new jobs with the company." This expansion marks a significant step forward for Wizz Air as it continues to strengthen its presence in these key European markets.
