Amazon Announces Its Largest-Ever Annual Investment in U.S. Hourly Wages, Hiring 250,000 Holiday Employees

Amazon is offering a fantastic opportunity for job seekers by hiring 250,000 individuals for various roles in their fulfillment centers and transportation departments across numerous cities and towns in the United States. As a leading job creator, Amazon has added more than 800,000 jobs in the past five years and is committed to investing $1.3 billion this year to increase the wages of its customer fulfillment and transportation staff. This investment will raise the average pay for these roles to over $20.50 per hour, representing a remarkable 50% increase over the past five years, with some locations offering as much as $28 per hour.

John Felton, Amazon's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations, expressed excitement about the holiday season and the hiring of 250,000 new employees. He mentioned that Amazon provides opportunities for those seeking both short-term income and long-term career prospects. Employees in fulfillment and transportation roles can anticipate a 13% increase in pay over the next three years, in addition to benefits such as prepaid college tuition through Career Choice and immediate healthcare coverage.

Amazon consistently raises hourly wages and has invested over $10 billion in hourly pay over the last five years. This year, the company has introduced new employee benefits, including an emergency savings program and a financial assistance pilot program, which have collectively saved customer fulfillment and transportation employees nearly $20 million.

Amazon's operations network encompasses a variety of roles, such as stowing, picking, packing, sorting, and shipping customer orders, and these opportunities are available in numerous cities and towns across the country. Signing bonuses between $1,000 and $3,000 are offered in select locations, with hourly wages ranging from $17 to $28 depending on the position and location in the United States.

The company is also focused on providing improved on-the-job safety training, enhancing real-life, job-relevant safety training, and developing an improved curriculum for Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT) Training, specifically designed to prioritize safety.

Amazon's commitment to job creation is evident in the opening of over 50 new fulfillment centers, delivery stations, and same-day delivery sites in the United States this year, resulting in numerous job opportunities at each location.

Amazon values its employees and offers career advancement opportunities, immediate access to earned pay, health, vision, and dental insurance from day one, a 401(k) plan with company matching, up to 20 weeks of paid pregnancy/parental leave, and access to the Resources for Living program, which provides mental health and financial support for employees and their families.
