Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMFL), highlighted that milk has become India's most significant agricultural crop. He predicts that within the next decade, India will produce one-third of the world's milk. The federation, which sells dairy products under the Amul brand, aims to expand its product line in the US market following the introduction of fresh milk in partnership with the Michigan Milk Producers Association, as stated by a top official on Friday.
There is substantial demand for fresh products in the US and other international markets. We will soon be introducing additional products such as dahi, lassi, buttermilk, cream, and paneer, according to Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of GCMMFL.
Speaking at the 116th Annual General Meeting of the Indian Merchants’ Chamber (IMC) as the Chief Guest, Mehta reiterated that milk has become India's top agricultural product, and the country is set to contribute one-third of global milk production in the coming decade. GCMMF has already launched four types of milk in the US, targeting the Indian diaspora and Asian communities.
We also plan to expand into Canada and are exploring other global markets, Mehta added. The federation is keen on diversifying into every category of dairy products. During the AGM, IMC President Sanjaya Mariwala emphasized the Chamber’s commitment to policy advocacy, industry response, and collaboration with the government to ensure effective execution in a spirit of partnership.
