OpenAI has announced the launch of a business-oriented version of ChatGPT, responding to diminishing user engagement nine months after its initial groundbreaking release. Named ChatGPT Enterprise, this edition will provide corporate clients with an enhanced bot experience, featuring top-tier security and privacy upgrades compared to its predecessors. OpenAI's focus on data security has intensified as industry giants like Apple, Amazon, and Samsung have banned their employees from using ChatGPT due to data confidentiality concerns.
OpenAI stated in a blog post that this release signifies a significant stride towards creating an AI work assistant tailored for various tasks, customized to suit individual organizations, and dedicated to safeguarding corporate data. The enterprise variant of ChatGPT shares similarities with Microsoft's Bing Chat Enterprise, which also harnesses OpenAI technology through a substantial partnership. Unlike its predecessor powered by GPT-3, ChatGPT Enterprise will operate on the robust GPT-4 model, boasting impressive performance.
In addition to the benefits akin to ChatGPT Plus, the subscription version for individuals, and business customers will enjoy exclusive advantages including enhanced speed. OpenAI's vision is to integrate AI into workplaces to enhance productivity and creativity across teams. The company proudly noted early adopters of ChatGPT Enterprise, including renowned firms like Carlyle, The Estée Lauder Companies, and PwC.
The launch of ChatGPT Enterprise comes as the initial excitement surrounding ChatGPT begins to wane. Initially touted as the world's fastest downloaded app post-launch, ChatGPT has lost its leading position to Threads, the Twitter competitor under Meta's ownership. Analytical data from Similarweb indicated a nearly 10% decline in ChatGPT's traffic in both June and July, possibly due to the summer break for schools.
Notably, a significant portion of ChatGPT's user base falls within the 18- to 24-year-old demographic, constituting around a quarter of its global users. OpenAI faces further challenges, as platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit have started blocking OpenAI web crawlers from utilizing their data for training AI models.
Recent studies from the Pew Research Center have unveiled public concerns surrounding AI and ChatGPT. Among U.S.-based respondents familiar with ChatGPT, two-thirds expressed worries that government regulations might not adequately oversee its usage. Over time, ChatGPT's application for learning and professional tasks has risen from 12% in March to 16% in July, as indicated by Pew's research. However, a majority (52%) of Americans revealed greater apprehension than enthusiasm towards the expanding role of artificial intelligence.
