08 Apr, 2025

French President Emmanuel Macron visited Cairo, where he and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi officially elevated France-Egypt relations to the level of a strategic partnership. The announcement marked a significant milestone in the long-standing diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.

The high-level discussions included ministerial delegations from both countries and resulted in the signing of key agreements and memoranda of understanding in strategic areas such as healthcare, transport, energy, artificial intelligence, and vocational training. These agreements reinforce France’s ongoing commitment to collaborative development and investment in Egypt.

President Macron emphasized France’s dedication to Egypt’s stability and prosperity, voicing strong support for Egypt’s economic reform initiatives in coordination with the International Monetary Fund and the European Commission. He also recognized the vital role Egypt plays in regional peace and security amid rising geopolitical tensions.

At the joint press conference, both leaders expressed deep concern about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. France joined Egypt in opposing any forced displacement or annexation of Palestinian territories and advocated for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian access. President Macron echoed the need for a comprehensive political solution based on the two-state framework, supporting Egypt’s diplomatic efforts.

The discussions extended to broader regional issues, including Syria, Lebanon, and maritime security in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Macron acknowledged the strategic importance of Egypt’s water security and expressed France’s readiness to cooperate on shared concerns affecting the Nile Basin and Red Sea.

France also reaffirmed its support for Egypt within the European Union, playing a key role in securing approval for a €4 billion financial assistance package. President Macron stressed the importance of timely fund disbursement to sustain Egypt’s economic progress.

This landmark visit and strategic elevation mark a new era in Franco-Egyptian relations, underscoring shared goals for stability, innovation, and long-term partnership.
