Struggling IT firm Atos is actively exploring options to address its financial challenges while prioritizing France's national security interests. Chairman Jean-Pierre Mustier emphasized the company's openness to "any solution" that achieves this goal during a parliamentary hearing on Wednesday. Mustier highlighted the potential for the government to acquire a minority stake in Atos, underscoring the importance of preserving control over strategic assets such as super-calculators and cybersecurity services vital for military and nuclear facilities.
He assured senators that Atos has established safeguard mechanisms to maintain government control over these critical assets. However, Mustier suggested that additional reinforcement of the state's position may be necessary, particularly in light of the company's ongoing financial restructuring. Drawing parallels with previous government interventions in companies like Thales and Airbus, Mustier pointed to the possibility of the government acquiring a minority stake in Atos' cybersecurity unit, BDS.
This proactive approach underscores Atos' commitment to finding sustainable solutions while aligning with national security imperatives. By remaining open to government involvement, Atos seeks to navigate its financial challenges effectively while maintaining essential capabilities for France's defense infrastructure.
