A prominent UK billionaire family, the Barclays, has decided to put their luxurious superyacht on the market. The "Lady Beatrice," with an asking price of 22 million euros or $23.2 million, is now listed by the brokerage firm Edmiston. This move comes as The Telegraph media group, owned by the Barclay family, is scheduled to be auctioned later this month.
Lloyds Banking Group had taken control of the company in June due to a substantial debt of £1 billion (approximately $1.2 billion). To secure ownership of the media group, the Barclay family has opted to sell their prized yacht, "Lady Beatrice," as reported by The Times.
The yacht, named in honor of Beatrice Cecelia Taylor, the late mother of identical twins Frederick and David Barclay, was constructed by the Dutch shipyard Feadship in 1993. Measuring 197 feet in length, it boasts eight cabins, accommodating up to 16 guests and 17 crew members.
Receiving high praise from an auto evolution writer as "the floating version of a French palace," the yacht's main deck features two master staterooms with ensuite bathrooms, walk-in dressing rooms, and private studies. The remaining six cabins are situated on the lower deck.
Notable features of "Lady Beatrice" include an alfresco dining area on the lower deck, a pool, and a grand piano in the main salon. Its annual maintenance costs are estimated at $3 million, according to SuperYachtFan, which describes the vessel as a "testament to opulence, offering a visually striking environment that exudes comfort and sophistication."
The Barclay family is renowned for its privacy, earning them the title of "the UK's most infamous reclusive billionaires" by Forbes in 2020. However, the yacht became a subject of public attention due to a contentious divorce dispute between Frederick and his ex-wife. In July 2022, Hiroko, Frederick's former spouse, revealed in court that the Barclay twin brothers had engaged in a business dispute on the vessel, as reported by Bloomberg at the time.
As of the time of this report, there has been no response to inquiries made by Insider to Edmiston and the Barclay family beyond regular business hours.
