Columbia Sportswear has reported a 3% increase in net sales, reaching $985.7 million in the third quarter. This growth was evenly distributed across both the company's wholesale and direct-to-consumer channels. During the three months ending on September 30th, the company's direct-to-consumer and wholesale segments experienced balanced net sales growth.
In comparison to the same period in the previous year, the early shipments of autumn 2023 orders more than compensated for reduced distributor sales, contributing to the 3% growth in the wholesale division. The direct-to-consumer segment expanded by 4%, with notable growth in the markets of China, Europe, and Canada.
The sales for each brand within the company increased, with Columbia seeing a 4% rise to $804 million and Sorel achieving a 9% increase to $122 million. In contrast, smaller brands PraNa and Mountain Hardwear saw declines of 18% and 9%, respectively.
Tim Boyle, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer, stated, "The outstanding performance in the third quarter was primarily driven by international-direct markets, with Canada, Europe-direct, and China all delivering over 20% year-over-year growth in constant currency."
