The MoU with France is designed to foster closer collaboration and the exchange of information related to digital technologies. It aims to mutually support the goal of promoting access to digital technology in both countries, as per an official statement.The Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of India and the Ministry of Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty of France has received approval from the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The MoU is expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation in digital technologies within the government-to-government (G2G) and business-to-business (B2B) domains, with a focus on creating employment opportunities in the IT sector.The Ministry of Electronics and IT (Meity) is tasked with promoting international cooperation in emerging IT areas under bilateral and regional frameworks.
The MoU with France is set to initiate collaboration upon its signature and will span a five-year period.Additionally, the cabinet approved an MoU signed on July 28 between Meity and the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology Papua New Guinea. This agreement aims to facilitate cooperation in sharing successful digital solutions for population-scale digital transformation, with a focus on exchanging experiences and India Stack-based solutions.
The MoU is effective from the date of its signature and remains in force for three years.In a similar move, the government has opened up India Stack—a suite of technology tools like Aadhaar, UPI, and Cowin—for adoption in other countries. The cabinet has also given the green light for a comparable agreement to promote India Stack between Meity and the Ministry of Digital Transformation Technology of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
