HCLSoftware, a division of HCLTech, is acquiring Zeenea, a French metadata management software firm, for €24 million (approximately Rs 218 crore). This acquisition is set to enhance HCLSoftware’s data and analytics capabilities, particularly boosting its Actian business. Expected to be finalized by next month, this move aims to integrate Zeenea’s strengths in metadata management, data cataloguing, and governance into Actian’s offerings.
Zeenea, founded in 2017 and headquartered in Paris, operates across Belgium and the US, offering an advanced data discovery platform. This platform supports a broad array of metadata management functions, including search, exploration, data cataloguing, lineage, governance, compliance, and an enterprise data marketplace. The acquisition will significantly support Actian’s hybrid data management and integration services, providing a more comprehensive solution to its customers.
HCLSoftware’s chief product officer, Kalyan Kumar, highlighted the growing importance of metadata management in accelerating GenAI initiatives. With this acquisition, HCLSoftware aims to offer a unified data intelligence solution, helping enterprises efficiently manage and leverage their data for improved decision-making and business processes. Zeenea reported revenue of €2.6 million as of December 31, 2023.
