Iberdrola has inaugurated the 496MW Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm, located 16km off the Brittany coast. This €2.4bn project is now fully operational and is capable of generating 2,000 GWh of clean energy annually, making it one of France’s most powerful offshore wind facilities. Equipped with 62 turbines, each with an 8MW capacity, Saint-Brieuc represents a major step forward in France's renewable energy efforts.
Key partners include Siemens-Gamesa, which supplied turbines produced at its Le Havre facility, and the Navantia Windar consortium, which managed foundation and transition piece construction. Additional partners such as Haizea, Prysmian, and Van Oord also played crucial roles. The construction phase of Saint-Brieuc created 1,700 jobs, including 500 local positions, and saw the involvement of 150 European companies, boosting local employment and technological growth.
This project, developed from 2012 to 2024, is now Iberdrola's fourth offshore wind farm, joining West of Duddon Sands and East Anglia One in the UK, and Wikinger in Germany. Iberdrola's executive chairman, Ignacio Galan, emphasized that Saint-Brieuc lays the foundation for France's offshore wind sector, contributing to energy security, reindustrialization, and climate objectives in Europe.
