India and the United States are actively working on an early visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the US to strengthen their comprehensive global strategic partnership. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that discussions are ongoing, but the exact dates for the visit are yet to be finalized. The announcement follows a recent telephonic conversation between PM Modi and US President Donald Trump, their first since Trump assumed office for a second term.
During their discussion on January 27, PM Modi congratulated Trump on his historic second term and reaffirmed India's commitment to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership with the US. Modi emphasized that both nations would collaborate to promote global peace, prosperity, and security. Trump, in turn, praised Modi, calling him a "magnificent man" loved by people worldwide and described India as a "magnificent country." Both leaders expressed their intent to work closely to advance global stability and economic growth.
Trump officially took office as the 47th President of the United States on January 20 in an indoor ceremony, marking the first time in four decades that a US presidential swearing-in was moved indoors due to freezing temperatures. India was represented at the event by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who attended at the invitation of the US government. Jaishankar also carried a letter from PM Modi to Trump, further reinforcing India's commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties with Washington.
The upcoming visit is expected to deepen cooperation in various sectors, including defense, trade, and technology, as both countries look to expand their strategic partnership. With growing geopolitical shifts, the meeting between Modi and Trump will be closely watched for potential agreements and collaborations that could shape bilateral relations in the coming years.
