Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ("K" LINE) has recently made significant strides in expanding its operations with the establishment of OCEANICWING S.A.S. in France on January 18th, and the subsequent acquisition of AIRSEAS's business in France, effective February 15th. These strategic moves aim to bolster the development and commercialization of "Seawing," an innovative automated kite system powered by wind energy, as stated by "K" LINE.
The groundbreaking "Seawing" technology is anticipated to slash CO2 emissions from vessels by approximately 20%, contributing to substantial environmental benefits. When combined with fuel conversion initiatives, such as transitioning from conventional heavy fuel oil to liquefied natural gas (LNG), "Seawing" holds the potential for even greater CO2 reduction performance.
Moreover, "Seawing" offers versatility as it can be seamlessly installed on various vessel types, including existing ones, without the need for additional energy production or supply infrastructure, harnessing the natural power of wind to propel ships efficiently.
Aligned with its long-term environmental vision, "K" LINE's ambitious targets include improving CO2 emission efficiency by 50% by 2030 compared to 2008, surpassing the standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050.
In pursuit of these goals, "K" LINE remains committed to driving the development of cutting-edge environmental technologies like "Seawing," thereby contributing to the realization of a low-carbon society.
