Sempra Infrastructure, a subsidiary of Sempra (NYSE: SRE) (BMV: SRE), has officially announced the appointment of Tania Ortiz Mena as a member of the Board of Directors for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's U.S.-Japan Business Council (USJBC). In addition to her role on the board, Ortiz Mena will serve as the U.S. Co-leading the Energy and Infrastructure Working Group.
Tania Ortiz Mena, President of Sempra Infrastructure, expressed the significance of this appointment, acknowledging Japan's heavy reliance on imported energy. She commended the U.S.-Japan Business Council for recognizing the importance of energy in terms of national security and economic development. Ortiz Mena expressed her enthusiasm in contributing to the Council's work, leveraging Sempra Infrastructure's extensive expertise, talented workforce, and versatility across sectors. Their collaborative efforts aim to bolster U.S.-Japan energy security cooperation and foster a more sustainable energy future.
This appointment follows Sempra Infrastructure's recent announcement of a non-binding agreement to participate in the evaluation of a proposed project involving the production of e-natural gas in partnership with a leading Japanese consortium. If the project comes to fruition, it could mark the inception of an international liquefied e-natural gas supply chain in the U.S. Gulf Coast region.
Established in 1971, the USJBC, based in Washington, D.C., is a dedicated association with a mission to promote U.S. business interests in Japan while fostering stronger economic ties between the United States and Japan. Comprised of leading U.S. companies with a strong commitment to conducting business in Japan, the USJBC maintains a robust institutional relationship with its Japanese counterpart, the Japan-U.S. Business Council (JUBC), which consists of major Japanese companies. Together, the USJBC and JUBC play a pivotal role as the preeminent private sector voices in the U.S.-Japan commercial relationship. The USJBC operates five sector-specific joint working groups in collaboration with the JUBC, focusing on digital economy, energy and infrastructure, financial services, healthcare innovation, and travel, tourism, and transportation.
USJBC Executive Director Tomoko Hosaka Mullaney expressed delight at Ortiz Mena's appointment to the Board, emphasizing their anticipation of collaborative efforts to further the work of their members in Japan and to promote mutual energy security and decarbonization initiatives between the U.S. and Japan.
