Spanish fashion retailer Zara, a subsidiary of Inditex, is set to expand its offering to buy, repair, or donate second-hand clothing in France starting this Thursday. This service, available through Zara's physical stores, website, and mobile app, has already been serving its British customers since October of the previous year. Furthermore, Zara's CEO, Oscar Garcia Maceiras, has announced plans to introduce this service in Germany later this year.
The company's initiative aims to prolong the lifespan of customers' Zara clothing while contributing to waste reduction and decreased consumption of new raw materials. Zara has committed to having 40 percent of its clothing items made from recycled fibers by 2030 and is actively supporting organizations like Moda Re, which manages textile waste. Additionally, the company is striving to reduce its carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2030 and an impressive 90 percent by 2040.
Zara's move follows in the footsteps of other fast fashion brands, including its main rival H&M, by offering resale products, aligning with the growing global trend in the second-hand apparel market.
