Trade and investment growth between China and Japan have faced setbacks due to economic and security concerns. Beijing's top envoy to Tokyo, Wu Jianghao, seeks to reassure the Japanese business community by emphasizing the need to explore opportunities in emerging industries. Despite Japan's alliance with the United States, Wu asserts Tokyo's responsibility to maintain stable ties with Beijing, citing legal agreements between the two nations.
In an interview with Japanese business magazine Zaikai, Wu addresses the potential impact of the US presidential election on the global economy, urging collaboration between China and Japan to ensure stability. Amidst territorial disputes and a 10.7% drop in trade last year, Wu acknowledges the need for urgent attention to reverse the economic slowdown. As China's technological strength grows, Japanese companies express concerns, but Wu sees potential collaboration in advancing digital and green economies.
Wu addresses worries surrounding China's new espionage law, assuring that China welcomes normal and friendly economic activities. He acknowledges instances involving individuals with influence in Sino-Japanese exchanges engaging in unlawful activities but emphasizes the desire for cooperation. Despite some foreign companies withdrawing from China, Wu considers it a normal market phenomenon and expresses China's openness to addressing legitimate concerns for foreign enterprises operating in the country.
