Cyberattack Targets Japan's Space Agency, No Impact on Operations

Japan's space agency, JAXA, fell victim to a cyberattack, as disclosed by a spokesperson on Wednesday. Fortunately, the accessed information did not compromise crucial data related to rocket and satellite operations.

The spokesperson acknowledged the potential for unauthorized access, citing the exploitation of network equipment vulnerabilities. However, specific details, including the timing of the attack, were not disclosed.

JAXA became aware of the unauthorized access following information from an external organization, triggering an internal investigation. The spokesperson refrained from revealing the organization's identity, emphasizing the ongoing nature of the inquiry.

Reports from Japanese media indicated that the cyberattack transpired during the summer, with the police notifying JAXA in the autumn. The incident was first reported by the Yomiuri newspaper.
