Exploration Mission: Kochi Prefecture Delegation Seeks Collaborative Opportunities in Chennai

A delegation consisting of senior government officials and business representatives from Kochi Prefecture, Japan, recently visited Chennai with a primary goal of exploring potential collaborations in Tamil Nadu.

Taga Masayuki, Consul General of Japan, Chennai, emphasized the delegation's aim to build business-to-business and people-to-people relationships during a business networking meeting organized by the Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The objective is to foster a comprehensive understanding on both sides, facilitating meaningful partnerships.

Hamda Kenji, Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Labor, Kochi Prefectural Government, highlighted Kochi Prefecture's unique strengths, situated along the coast of the island of Shikoku. Despite lacking the presence of major corporations like Toyota, the region boasts companies with niche technologies, particularly in agriculture and marine-based industries.

Addressing challenges such as frequent rainfall, floods, and earthquakes, disaster management emerged as a key focus area for Kochi Prefecture. A presentation showcased the region's expertise across agriculture, the paper industry, tourism, and effective disaster management tools.

Representatives from companies like Shimanto Concrete Ltd., Hitoto Corporation Ltd., and Nippon Kodoshi Corporation shared insights into their work and expressed interest in potential collaborations.

N Kumar, Chairman of the Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, emphasized the growing ties between India and Japan, emphasizing the significance of collaborations, particularly among micro, small, and medium enterprises for further development.
