A Japanese business group is urging increased cooperation with Taiwan in key sectors like semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and others. The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Taipei, representing about 500 Japanese companies operating in Taiwan, made these recommendations in a white paper submitted to Liu Chin-ching, head of Taiwan’s National Development Council.
The white paper also emphasizes the need for Japan's support in Taiwan’s application to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), a major trade agreement established by 11 nations, with Britain set to join soon.
Liu highlighted the complementary roles that Taiwan and Japan can play, particularly in the semiconductor industry. He noted that Japan is one of the best global partners in this sector, and that continued investments in development are crucial for future success.
The Japanese business group also plans further discussions with its Taiwanese counterparts to improve the business environment and foster stronger relationships between the two nations. This cooperation aims to enhance economic ties and create new opportunities in high-tech industries for both Taiwan and Japan.
