A Japanese business delegation met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang to discuss ending China's ban on seafood imports from Japan. Despite the delegation's request, Li did not provide a clear response during the meeting, which took place at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing and involved a 200-member business mission.
The seafood import ban was initially imposed due to concerns surrounding the release of treated radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea. As part of the discussions, the Japanese group, which included representatives from Japan's largest business lobby, the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren), emphasized the importance of transparent implementation of China's counterespionage law. Additionally, they urged China to work towards improving strained relations with the United States.
Overall, the meeting highlighted the complexities of international trade relations between Japan and China, with both sides seeking deeper cooperation while grappling with various geopolitical and economic challenges. The outcome of these discussions could have significant implications for the future of seafood trade between the two nations and broader diplomatic efforts in the region.
