Japan-India Partnership Expands with Green Hydrogen and Cultural Ties

11 Mar, 2025

Japan’s Yamanashi Prefecture is strengthening its partnership with India through advancements in Green Hydrogen energy, human resource exchange, and cultural collaboration. Governor Kotaro Nagasaki is leading this initiative, focusing on sustainable energy, business development, and bilateral cooperation.

Yamanashi, known for its pristine environment near Mt. Fuji, is pioneering Green Hydrogen technology through its flagship company, Yamanashi Hydro Company, which boasts world-class hydrogen production expertise. To enhance economic and technological ties, Yamanashi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Uttar Pradesh in December 2024. This agreement promotes business collaboration, workforce development, and innovation in clean energy, facilitated by an Indian consultant to ensure smooth execution.

Governor Nagasaki envisions inviting Indian engineers to work at Yamanashi Hydro Company and offering Indian students research opportunities at Yamanashi University. He emphasizes that human resource exchange will drive business expansion and scientific progress for both nations. Additionally, to support Indian professionals working in Japan, he is developing a comprehensive medical insurance plan for their families, ensuring a secure and stable working environment.

Beyond technology, Governor Nagasaki is eager to strengthen cultural ties, proposing Yamanashi’s picturesque landscapes as locations for Bollywood film shoots. He also highlights Japan’s rich samurai heritage and the Takeda Shingen Festival, featuring a grand samurai parade, as unique attractions for Indian cinema.

Further deepening diplomatic efforts, the governor plans to organize meetings between Japanese governors and Indian state leaders, including Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, to enhance cooperation between regional governments.

Governor Nagasaki believes these strategic initiatives will foster a stronger Indo-Japanese partnership, driving innovation, economic growth, and cultural exchange while paving the way for long-term collaboration between the two nations.
