Prime Minister Fumio Kishida marked the opening day of the Japan Mobility Show with a visit, where he engaged in discussions with industry leaders to foster public-private collaboration aimed at boosting domestic investment.
During the talks, Kishida and industry leaders exchanged views on how Japan's automobile industry can maintain its competitiveness in the global market. This challenge arises as automakers worldwide are actively pursuing decarbonization efforts and transitioning toward electric vehicles.
Expressing his determination to promote investment, Kishida stated, "We'll do our best through the cooperation of the public and private sectors." This commitment underscores the significance of government and industry working together to address these challenges.
The meeting included key members of the mobility committee of the Japan Business Federation, commonly known as Keidanren. This committee focuses on formulating growth strategies for the automobile industry. Prominent attendees at the meeting were Akio Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota Motor Corp, and Masakazu Tokura, Chairman of Keidanren. Additionally, Industry Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura and Transport Minister Tetsuo Saito participated in the discussions.
Notably, this meeting marked Kishida's first exchange of opinions with the auto industry since November of the previous year. The automobile industry plays a pivotal role in the Japanese economy, impacting various sectors, including employment.
In recognition of the industry's active efforts in areas such as wage increases, improvements in business transaction practices, and domestic investment growth, Kishida expressed the government's high appreciation. These endeavors contribute to the overall economic well-being of the nation.
