Japanese automakers Nissan and Honda are collaborating to share electric vehicle (EV) components like batteries and jointly research autonomous driving software. Mitsubishi Motors Corp. has also joined the partnership, emphasizing the importance of speed and scale in the rapidly evolving auto industry focused on electrification. The partnership aims to catch up with leaders like Tesla and China’s BYD. By sharing resources and achieving economies of scale, Nissan and Honda plan to cut costs and make strategic technology investments. While each company will continue to produce its own models, they will share components and software development efforts. The collaboration may extend to energy services in Japan. The companies aim to complement each other’s model lineups globally, including both internal combustion engine vehicles and EVs. Although Toyota is not part of this collaboration, Nissan and Honda believe their partnership will enable them to catch up with global competitors. The executives emphasized the urgency of adapting to industry changes and the potential benefits of their alliance.
