In Tokyo, on February 16, Reuters reported that Sony (6758.T) is set to collaborate with U.S.-based Seagate Technology to ramp up the mass production of hard disk drives (HDDs), a move aimed at satisfying the burgeoning demand for artificial intelligence (AI) applications, according to the Nikkei newspaper.
The partnership is expected to see Sony Semiconductor Solutions commence mass production of lasers crucial for the drives by May, as outlined by Nikkei's report. To facilitate this endeavor, Sony intends to inject approximately 5 billion yen ($33 million) into the establishment of new production lines.
This collaboration underscores the strategic alignment between Sony and Seagate to address the escalating need for storage solutions tailored to AI-driven technologies.
