Tokyo Disney Resort unveils its largest expansion yet, Fantasy Springs, a ¥320 billion ($2 billion) investment celebrating beloved fantasy franchises. Situated within Tokyo DisneySea, this expansive addition covers over 140,000 square meters, divided into three thematic zones inspired by "Frozen," "Tangled," and "Peter Pan."
Anticipating a significant boost in revenue and attendance, Oriental Land, the resort’s operator, projects an increase of ¥75 billion in annual sales and expects to welcome 29 million visitors in the upcoming fiscal year, including 4 million international guests. This expansion comes amid a surge in tourism to Japan, driven by a weaker yen and increased domestic travel due to high airfares and modest wage growth.
Disney's international theme parks have seen notable success, with profits soaring, particularly with the introduction of new attractions like "Frozen" in Hong Kong and Zootopia in Shanghai. In Japan, the amusement park industry is rebounding to pre-pandemic levels, with attendance and sales climbing steadily.
Fantasy Springs offers not only immersive rides but also a variety of dining options and accommodations, including a hotel with hundreds of guest rooms. Future plans for Tokyo Disneyland include the world’s first "Wreck-It Ralph" attraction, tapping into the global success of the franchise. Disneyland Paris is also set to introduce a "Frozen"-inspired land and revamp its second park, indicative of Disney’s ongoing commitment to innovation and expansion.
