Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, met with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to discuss joint projects under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Initiative. The visit aims to enhance the UAE-Japan relationship and promote sustainable economic growth. This follows the framework established during the visit of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Japan in September 2022.
Dr. Al Jaber conveyed greetings from President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and emphasized the importance of energy security and the use of artificial intelligence to improve the energy sector. He met with key Japanese ministers and CEOs to discuss innovation, clean energy projects, and investment opportunities.
The UAE is a major source of foreign direct investment to Japan from the Middle East, with significant growth in Japanese investments in the UAE across sectors like technology and renewable energy. In 2023, total trade between the UAE and Japan reached $47.4 billion, with non-oil trade at $15.6 billion, reflecting a 6.1 percent growth from 2022. The UAE remains Japan's top trading partner in the GCC, receiving 47 percent of Japan’s exports to the region.
