VicOne, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Trend Micro and a renowned leader in automotive cybersecurity solutions has made a significant announcement today. They have expanded their global operations to include Japan, in addition to their existing locations in Taiwan, Germany, and the United States. This expansion is marked by the establishment of their headquarters in Tokyo. Furthermore, VicOne has appointed Mahendra Negi as the Chairman of the company.
Max Cheng, the CEO of VicOne, expressed their commitment to leveraging years of expertise in cyber threat intelligence to provide comprehensive protection for vehicles throughout their entire lifecycle. With their central operations now based in Tokyo, they aim to bring their local integration expertise to the heart of global automotive manufacturing and innovation.
Additionally, Mahendra Negi, who serves as the CFO and board member of Trend Micro, has assumed the role of Chairman at VicOne. His extensive leadership experience and visionary outlook position him well to lead VicOne in delivering automotive cybersecurity solutions that enhance outcomes for both OEMs and drivers of connected vehicles, both now and in the future.
Negi's accolades, including being ranked as the No. 1 Internet Analyst in Japan by Institutional Investor magazine and the No. 2 Software Analyst by both Institutional Investor and the Nikkei Shimbun, underscore his expertise. Prior to joining Trend Micro in 2000, he worked at Merrill Lynch, specializing in Japan's internet and software industries. His academic qualifications include a master's degree in physics from Nagpur University in India and a master's degree in management from the London Business School.
The rapid adoption of connected vehicles worldwide has heightened the risk for OEMs in terms of potential damage to their brand and finances due to the proliferation of updatable vehicle functions controlled by software. Gartner, a renowned technology research and consulting firm, has highlighted that automakers are increasingly prioritizing cybersecurity in response to the growing vulnerability of their systems.
In January 2024, during Automotive World Tokyo, VicOne will collaborate with Trend Micro's Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) to host the inaugural Pwn2Own Automotive Security Vulnerability competition. This event is specifically designed to address the rising threats to connected cars globally. Pwn2Own Automotive will challenge researchers to identify and exploit vulnerabilities in automotive software and devices before malicious actors can do so. The inaugural Pwn2Own Automotive event will have Tesla, a leading car manufacturer, as the title sponsor, in a concerted effort to uncover new vulnerabilities in automotive systems.
