ArcelorMittal Brazil has initiated two major solar energy projects with a combined capacity of 465 megawatts (MW), aimed at fulfilling 14% of its current electricity needs. These projects mark a significant stride towards decarbonizing the company's energy consumption and moving closer to energy self-sufficiency.
The first project is a joint venture with Casa dos Ventos, an extension of their earlier collaboration on a 554 MW wind power project. In this new initiative, ArcelorMittal Brazil will hold a 55% stake, while Casa dos Ventos will retain 45%. This 200 MW solar power plant will be situated in Bahia, northeast Brazil, and is expected to commence operations by the end of 2025.
This move highlights ArcelorMittal Brazil's commitment to sustainable energy solutions and its strategic efforts to enhance its renewable energy portfolio. The solar facilities are integral to the company's broader sustainability goals and represent a pivotal advancement in its energy transition strategy.
