Brazil and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, have renewed their long-standing partnership through an updated Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at the 78th World Health Assembly. This agreement aims to enhance equitable access to vaccines and bolster resilient health systems, reflecting a shared commitment to global health equity and innovation.
The renewed MoU focuses on three strategic areas:Local Vaccine Manufacturing: The partnership seeks to strengthen Brazil’s vaccine production capabilities, leveraging Gavi’s market-shaping expertise to improve health system resilience.
Brazil has been instrumental in global immunisation efforts, notably through Bio-Manguinhos, its public-sector vaccine manufacturer, which supplies millions of yellow fever vaccine doses to Gavi-supported countries. Additionally, Brazil is actively involved in developing vaccines for diseases like dengue, which are increasingly significant due to climate-related factors.
The partnership also includes access to Gavi-funded global emergency vaccine stockpiles, covering diseases such as cholera, yellow fever, meningitis, Ebola, and mpox. This mechanism enables rapid response to outbreaks, enhancing global health security.
With Brazil set to host COP30 and the BRICS Summit in 2025, its renewed collaboration with Gavi strengthens the nation’s role in championing integrated strategies for global health, equity, and climate resilience. The partnership underscores a shared vision for a healthier, safer, and more resilient future, both for Brazil and the world.
