Babcock's LGE Division Wins 15 VLEC Contracts in China

Babcock's LGE business, renowned leaders in liquefied gas solutions, has achieved a significant milestone by securing contracts to provide their cutting-edge ethane cargo handling and fuel gas supply system, known as ecoETHN®. These contracts pertain to a total of 15 Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLECs) and have been awarded to Jiangnan Shipyard for shipowners Tianjin Southwest and Pacific Gas.

This development marks a substantial achievement for Babcock's LGE business, pushing the total number of ecoETHN® contracts to an impressive 27. All of these contracts have been executed in partnership with Jiangnan Shipyard in China, with four vessels from previous contracts already delivered and operating successfully.

The delivery of the new VLECs is scheduled between 2025 and 2026, aligning with the increasing global demand for long-haul ethane transportation services. Of these vessels, nine will be delivered to Tianjin Southwest, while Pacific Gas will take possession of the remaining six.

Neale Campbell, the Managing Director for Babcock's LGE business, expressed the significance of this accomplishment, stating, "What we do at Babcock’s LGE business matters more now than ever, and it is an honor to work with our customers on our journey to reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions."

Campbell further emphasized the company's commitment to innovation and sustainability by mentioning recent successes in securing contracts for their novel ecoETHN® technology and their cutting-edge ecoCO2® cargo handling system. These innovations not only enhance operational efficiency but also contribute to economic and environmental benefits throughout the entire lifespan of the ships. Babcock's LGE business continues to play a crucial role in addressing the evolving needs of the global maritime industry while promoting environmental sustainability.
