Boris Mergell is set to assume the role of Head of User Experience (UX) business area at Continental Automotive starting September 1, 2023. In this capacity, he will spearhead the advancement of visionary display solutions, head-up displays, and innovative UX software functions aimed at delivering captivating user experiences for future mobility, as highlighted by the company's statement.
Boris Mergell is set to take on a crucial role within the Automotive Board as part of his expanded responsibilities. He will assume a direct reporting line to Philipp von Hirschheydt, who has transitioned from his prior position as Head of User Experience to become a member of the Executive Board with a focus on leading the Automotive sector. Philipp von Hirschheydt has been at the helm of the sector's activities between 2022 and 2023 and maintains his leadership role following his appointment as Chairman of the Automotive division.
Boris Mergell's academic background encompasses physics studies in Mainz, Germany, Umeå, Sweden, and Paris, France, culminating in his doctoral degree in 2003. Over his two-decade tenure at Continental, he has occupied diverse roles in research, product development, and material innovation for passenger, light, and heavy truck tires. Most recently, Boris Mergell held the position of Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Tires, where he was accountable for all Continental tire-related initiatives within this domain.
Philipp von Hirschheydt expressed his confidence in Boris Mergell's extensive Continental experience, affirming his belief in his ability to sustain the UX business area's triumphs and propel the company's technological leadership in this burgeoning sector.
