Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday urged investors and industry leaders from Singapore to strengthen strategic partnerships with Odisha, which is emerging as one of India’s top investment destinations. During his four-day official visit to Singapore, part of the outreach for the upcoming Utkarsh Odisha: Make-in-Odisha Conclave 2025, the chief minister invited companies such as Orind Singapore Pte Ltd to establish their units in Odisha.
The visit began with a briefing by Indian High Commissioner to Singapore, Shilpak Ambule, highlighting the growing India-Singapore business ties and investment opportunities in Odisha. Following the briefing, Majhi held one-on-one meetings with key investors.
The Chief Minister met with Ravin Jhunjhunwala, Chairman of Orind Singapore Pte Ltd, who expressed interest in investing in Odisha's bio-fertilizer sector. Majhi assured Jhunjhunwala of full government support to establish the facility in the state. Additionally, Majhi engaged with Vivek Agarwal, Director of Visa Group Ltd, urging him to expand the company’s operations in Odisha's steel and ferrochrome sectors, to increase value-added products and create more employment opportunities.
The delegation also met with Wong Kim Yin, Group President and CEO of Sembcorp Industries Ltd, to discuss the company's upcoming green ammonia project in Odisha. Other notable meetings included discussions with BC Tan, Chairman of UBCT, Edward Morton, Founder of CT Metrix, and Sushant Patnaik, Founder and CEO of iHub Inc, focusing on semiconductors, medical equipment manufacturing, and smart city solutions. All were invited to attend the Utkarsh Odisha Conclave in January.
Majhi emphasized that semiconductors and electronics manufacturing are a key focus for Odisha, and the state is committed to creating a robust electronics ecosystem. He invited Singaporean executives to visit Odisha to explore investment opportunities. Majhi also noted that India and Singapore share strong economic ties and that Singapore’s success in infrastructure and urban management could provide valuable lessons for Odisha's rapid urbanization.
Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain highlighted Odisha's strategic location on India’s eastern seaboard, making it an ideal hub for investments in green fuels and renewable energy. The interactions during the visit offered valuable insights to enhance the state’s industrial ecosystem and attract global investments.
