Singapore and India Strengthen Ties in Green Shipping, Digital Business

20 Mar, 2025

India’s Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, along with key industry leaders, is set to visit Singapore next week to establish a collaborative working program with Singapore’s maritime and digital industries. This visit aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation in green shipping and digital business, advancing sustainable maritime practices and digital transformation.

Singapore, a global maritime hub, is expected to play a crucial role in supporting India’s ambitions for eco-friendly shipping solutions and smart port development. Discussions will focus on implementing clean energy solutions, alternative fuels, and digital innovation in maritime operations. By leveraging Singapore’s expertise, India seeks to accelerate its transition towards decarbonized shipping and efficient port management.

Beyond green shipping, the visit will also highlight opportunities for digital business expansion, emphasizing fintech collaboration, logistics digitization, and blockchain adoption in trade facilitation. Strengthening digital ties with Singapore will enable Indian businesses to integrate with global supply chains and improve cross-border trade efficiency.

This engagement aligns with India’s broader efforts to promote sustainability, innovation, and economic resilience through international partnerships. Singapore’s strategic role in fostering maritime and digital advancements makes it an ideal partner for India’s evolving infrastructure needs.

With this collaboration, both nations aim to enhance sustainable trade practices, promote clean energy adoption in shipping, and drive technological advancements in business operations. The partnership is expected to unlock new investment opportunities, create jobs, and contribute to a more resilient and sustainable global maritime sector.

As India and Singapore deepen their engagement, this initiative marks a significant step towards eco-friendly shipping solutions, digital trade integration, and a stronger economic partnership between the two nations.
