The Brazilian division of COFCO International, a Chinese company, has initiated operations of Brazil's inaugural biodiesel pipeline, linking its Rondonopolis facility, situated at the heart of the nation's agricultural region, to nearby distributors.
As per an announcement made on Friday, this 3-kilometer (approximately 2-mile) pipeline is projected to eliminate around 12,000 tanker truck journeys annually, contributing to a reduction in both road congestion and emissions.
The Rondonopolis plant employs soybeans sourced from regions untouched by deforestation or the conversion of native forests to produce biodiesel, as confirmed by COFCO.
Guilherme Achcar, the Commercial Director in Brazil overseeing the overseas trading business of China's state-owned food group COFCO Corp, stated, "Our clientele eagerly anticipates accessing a more cost-effective and eco-friendly fuel alternative."
Rondonopolis, a pivotal agricultural center within Mato Grosso, Brazil's foremost grain producer, enjoys an additional advantage of rail connectivity to vital ports like Santos in the southeast.
COFCO's Rondonopolis biodiesel facility bears certification from Brazil's national biofuel initiative, recognized as RenovaBio.
With a biodiesel production capacity of 370.5 million liters annually, the Rondonopolis unit complements its capabilities with a recently established pipeline that can proficiently pump 280 cubic meters every hour.
