Hundreds of African political and business leaders gathered at China’s Great Hall of the People for the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. The event, which runs through Friday, aims to foster new partnerships and sign significant contracts. Attendees from over 50 countries are eager to build industry connections and explore opportunities with Chinese firms.
Chadian construction firm owner Abakar Tahir Moussa expressed optimism about the forum, hoping to collaborate on infrastructure projects. He praised Chinese products for their competitive prices and quality. Similarly, a housing developer from Burkina Faso noted the affordability and quality of Chinese goods compared to other markets.
The atmosphere in Beijing is one of optimism and anticipation, with tight security reflecting the importance of the summit. Leaders such as South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have commended their Chinese hosts, including the lavish hospitality extended by President Xi Jinping.
Xi Jinping has pledged over $50 billion in financing to Africa over the next three years, with a substantial portion in credit. This commitment aims to deepen cooperation and support Africa’s development, despite concerns about debt and the impact of Chinese loans. Delegates hope the forum will enhance relations and boost economic growth across the continent.
